RDI to host workshop at 2004 AIA Iowa/Central Region Convention

For the second straight year and third year overall, the leading audio/visual engineers at R & D Industries, Inc. have been invited to speak at the American Institute of Architect’s (AIA) annual state convention in Des Moines, Iowa.

This year’s 2004 AIA Iowa/Central States Region Convention will be held Thursday and Friday, Oct. 14 & 15, at the Polk County Convention Center. R & D Industries, Inc. is an Allied Member of AIA Iowa.

The hour-long workshop by R & D Industries, entitled “Designing Facilities to Accommodate Modern Audio/Visual Systems”, is scheduled for Friday, October 15, 2004, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Senior engineering consultant Mike Clark and senior systems engineer Todd Berger CET will host the workshop.

“We’re pleased to be asked to speak once again at this year’s AIA Iowa event,” Clark said. “This will be our third workshop given at an AIA Iowa convention, and each of the two previous generated a great deal of positive feedback from the architects who attended. Many stopped by our booth later in the day to further discuss acoustics and A/V systems.”

The goal of this year’s AIA Iowa workshop is to give attendees a brief overview of how design elements of a structure can impact both the performance of A/V systems and the functionality of the space. Furthermore, ideas will be shared to minimize the aesthetic impact of systems within a facility.

The design of control rooms, mechanical space requirements, conference rooms, and stage/performance areas will be subjects covered in this session. Examples will be given to help designers plan for integration during the initial design phase of their projects.

The information provided, according to Clark, will prove invaluable to anyone engaged in the design of public or private spaces where acoustics and audio/visual systems play an important functional role.

While in the past, Iowa architects primarily attended the state’s AIA convention, this year’s event is regional. In celebration of its centennial year, AIA Iowa will be hosting architects from Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma – as well as Iowa – a this year’s convention.

In addition to speaking at the event, R & D Industries, Inc. will host an exhibit booth during the two-day convention. Anyone in attendance may visit with Clark and Berger at Booth 15 & 16 to discuss architectural acoustics and/or A/V system planning and design.

The engineering staff at R & D Industries, Inc. has a proven track record of consulting with AIA members, helping to provide the most acoustic-friendly building and room designs for their clients. By providing architects with the functionality knowledge they regularly seek, RDI consultants and engineers can provide a unique and interesting presentation for those attending the 2004 AIA Iowa/Central State Region Convention.
